Questions we hear first

Do I need an eye exam if I see fine?

Often, yes. Some eye problems don't change vision at first, and an exam checks the health of the eyes as well as the glasses.

How often should I have an exam?

Many adults 65 and older have one every year. Your doctor may suggest a different schedule for you.

Do you work with my vision plan?

We work with many vision plans. Call to confirm yours, and we will check your benefits before the visit.

Why was part of my visit billed to medical insurance?

A visit for an eye problem, a disease check or a follow-up is billed to medical insurance. A routine exam is billed to a vision plan. How fees work explains the difference.

Can I fill my prescription somewhere else?

Yes. Your prescription is yours. We give you a copy after your exam and fitting, and you can fill it anywhere.

Can I have my contact lens prescription?

Yes, when the fitting is complete. We tell you what remains before then.

What should I have ready?

Current glasses, any magnifiers, insurance cards and, if you have one, a list of medicines.

How much will it cost?

It depends on the plan and on what you choose. We give a written estimate in advance to anyone paying without insurance. See how fees work.

Who do you visit?

People who find it hard to get to an office: residents of assisted living, memory care and nursing communities, and people at home.

What should I do in an eye emergency?

Sudden vision loss, a curtain over your vision, a sudden shower of floaters, an eye injury or a chemical splash needs care now. Call our office right away or go to an emergency room. If you can't reach us, call 911.
